THE STORY BEHIND THE MOON COLLECTION
Early in my silversmithing journey I made a wonderful discovery. As sterling silver is melts in the crucible, it dances, bubbles and twists, forming fascinating organic shapes.
Intrigued by these spontaneous creations, I experimented with tiny silver scraps, watching as they transformed into beautiful little blobs —perfect for adding as decoration to any piece (more on those another time).
Driven by curiosity, I dared to dream bigger. As I piled more and more silver offcuts into the crucible, the molten metal morphed into large, one-of-a-kind shapes, each with its own unique weight and personality.
These extraordinary forms just begged to be jewellery of some sort. I started by crafting them into pendants, but what if I could turn these massive shapes into rings?
While the shapes were breathtaking, they also presented a challenge. Raw from the crucible, they often had jagged edges and shapes that required refinement. Through many, many hours of experimentation (and files, emery paper, sore fingers and frustration!), I discovered techniques to smooth these rough edges and polish the metal to a luminous sheen, preserving the organic beauty of each piece.
Each pendant and ring is a testament to the nature of molten silver. They are comfortable and tactile statement pieces, shaped by heat and chance, polished to a smooth high-shine finish.
